David L. Peterson Remer, Mn., Shipmate USS Cleveland LPD 7
I am so saddened to hear of Rick's passing. My prayers go out the Family. Friends and I talking on Monday Feb 20th 2017, about the world, friends , military days, etc. and Ricks name came up as best friends in the Navy, sea stories, good times and todays state of affairs. I checked my e-mail that evening, which I do every week or so and saw the obituary sent from the USS Cleveland Assoc. I couldn't believe it. Rick"Fu" and I were best friends in the Navy. He was a great man, and his sense of humor got us thru the good and bad times in Viet Nam, the States and life along the way. He visited me in Minnesota on "Boot Camp Leave" We took my Folks camper up to northern Mn. He was back at least twice after we got out of the Navy. Once in his Corvette! I remember we both loved music and saw The Supremes in SD in 1967? We went Disneyland LA in 68? It was $55 for a room for 1 night, we were making $86 a month then. We were at 1st Avenue here in Mpls in 1970, later to be be home of Prince. Even though we lost touch through the years as it sometimes goes in life, I'll never forgot him and the good times we had, some on shore involved a touch of scotch! All involved just good clean fun and friendship. Nothing got us down. He always stood for honesty, treating people with respect, no matter what their job or role in lifes economy was. He always did the right thing at the time. Love you Man, and hoping your sipping something "top shelf". Dave Peterson
Rita, Ron, Betty and family, we are so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. We were blessed to have known him. Please know that all of you are in our hearts and in our prayers, and we pray that at this time that the warmth of your memories will wrap you all in comfort and bring you peace. God bless each of you, Nancy and Tim Denton
My heart is so broken that Betty, Carrie, Katie, and their families are experiencing this time of grief as they are temporarily separated from Rich. My prayer is that they will cling to our Heavenly Father's promise of being able to be with him again--and forever! In the midst of their mourning, I also pray that God will provide comfort and peace as they remember the blessings and joys of sharing life with this wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
I am so saddened to hear of Richard's death. He always had a smile and a handshake when I saw him. He left beautiful legacies of his artistry in my home. He was a special, special man with a wonderful family who I know he loved deeply and widely. Betty, I know you and the girls will miss him terribly. May the grace that only our Jesus can provide cover you each and every day. Valerie and I love you guys.
We are so sorry to here about his passing. We send our deepest sympathies and know it will be hard. But being with family will help ease the pain. I know Betty. Love, Sheryl
