Obituary for Garry E. Kennedy

Garry E. Kennedy, 72, died on July 23, 2018, of complications from an autoimmune disease in Sun City Center, Fla. He and his wife of 52 years, Mary Margaret “Peggy” Kanaley Kennedy, had retired there from Franklin several years ago. The Kennedys were active in local civic affairs and may be best remembered for their roles as Father and Mrs. Christmas in Franklin’s annual Dickens of a Christmas festival. They also participated in other facets of the Downtown Franklin Association. The Kennedys also were active members of Saint Phillip Catholic Church of Franklin. Mr. Kennedy was well-known as a faithful fan of Syracuse University athletics in addition to his celebrated Irish heritage. He was a retired employee of Stuart C. Irby Co. Mr. Kennedy was supportive of his wife’s career where Peggy Kennedy retired as a legal secretary from Buerger Moseley Carson LLC of Franklin. Mr. Kennedy was a native of East Syracuse, N.Y., and the son of the late Edward and Julia Kennedy. Surviving in addition to Peggy Kennedy are his son, Michael (Barbara) Kennedy; his daughter and Kelley (Jamie) Janes; grandchildren, Logan, Aiden and Colton; and sister, Laura Kennedy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6:30 PM Friday, September 28, 2018 at St. Philip Catholic Church in the Historic Chapel. A reception will follow the services at the church. A funeral mass was held Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in East Syracuse, N.Y.
