Janette Germany Peavy
July 9, 1935 – September 20, 2018

Janette Germany Peavy’s life ended peacefully on September 20, 2018 at Alive Hospice in Nashville TN after a courageous, year long fight with cancer. Janette was diagnosed with melanoma cancer in the fall of 2017 and early on committed to the treatment option that gave her the best chance of complete recovery. The cancer diagnosis brought out the warrior in Janette and she fought valiantly with a hopeful outlook, a focused determination and joy in her heart through all the months of treatments. With her husband, Roland’s, tireless attention, good meals and watchful concern she knew herself to be in the most loving and capable of hands. Many of her caregivers along the way commented on the great care she was receiving at home and she wholeheartedly agreed. Throughout their married life they exhibited the commitment of the wedding vows they took as a young couple and theirs was truly a 57 year love story.

Janette’s story began in Union MS as the youngest child of Perry and Susie Germany, her indomitable spirit, zest for life, creative talent, and hard work characterized her life from an early age. In being one of the first of her family to go to college, Janette fulfilled not only her own dream but also one cherished by her mother. Janette loved to improve her life and the lives of those around her and she had the ability, the willingness, and the vision (with the help of a supportive husband) to make those dreams a reality.

Being a wife and mother was a dream she harbored from childhood and when she met and married Roland Peavy the first part of her dream came true. Over the next few years the birth of two daughters made the rest of that dream a reality and their family was complete. Throughout her life she would enjoy with wonder and amazement the very great blessing of family and delighted in watching it grow with the addition of spouses and grandchildren. Loving her family well and creating HOME for them was the joy and delight of her life.

As a pastor’s daughter, Janette lived with a deep abiding love for the church. In every place she lived, she embraced her church and loved her church family as family. Many of her most lasting friendships had their origins in the church groups she enjoyed. While living in Jackson TN she led the United Methodist Women with a mixture of creativity, vision and humor and enjoyed her leadership role. Though seemingly unaware of her ability, Janette was a natural leader who could make a plan, map out a strategy, and with joy and laughter encourage others to work together to accomplish a goal.

Janette was an elementary school teacher by occupation but, in truth, she loved to learn and to share her knowledge and talent with any willing student. She had an innate ability to recognize and create beauty and loved interior decorating, flower arranging, and creating table-scapes for birthdays and life events. In her world, there was no excuse to not make things pretty or, at the very least, interesting.

During the time she and Roland owned and managed retail boutiques, all of her creative efforts were put to good use. Through store displays, merchandise assortments, and coordinating outfits for customers she was the consummate hostess for the shops. She delighted in getting to know people and making them friends. She always had an ear to listen and a heart to care and would offer encouraging advice or words of warning, depending on what she thought you needed most.

Janette loved to travel and though she made many wonderful, memorable trips, her list of “places to go” was still long and varied. And for every trip and every adventure her greatest wish was to be able to take all of us along with her. Making friends along the way, Janette left an indelible mark in the lives of those she met. She loved being surrounded by people and people loved their time with her.

In her retirement years, Janette volunteered at local charities and used her retail experience and her talents for organizing, design, and staging to manage the merchandise and create displays to maximize the charity’s impact. In both Jackson and Fairview, local charities benefitted greatly from the commitment of her time and talent - she was selfless in her efforts on their behalf.

Janette Germany Peavy brought beauty and laughter to the world and let it overflow into the lives around her. She let the love of Jesus flow through her into her home, her family, her church and her community. To everyone whose life she touched, she was the epitome of sweetness, beauty and grace.

Visitation will be held 5-8:00PM Friday, September 21, 2018 and one hour prior to the service being held 11:00AM Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Fairview, TN. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Janette Peavy memorial Fund may be made to the First Baptist Church, 7310 Overby Rd., Fairview, TN 37062. Services will be held 11:00AM Monday, September 24, 2018 with visitation starting at 9:30AM at Stephen’s Funeral Home with internment at New Ireland Cemetery in Union, MS.
