Obituary for James Larry Cloyd

James Larry Cloyd
James Larry Cloyd, age 73 of Franklin, TN passed away September 17, 2018. He was born in Linden, TN to the late Archie & Lucille Cloyd on September 13, 1945 and was the youngest boy of eight children. Larry’s story is one of perseverance. Eight days after his 20th birthday, Larry lost both of his arms in an industrial accident at Vulcan Materials Company, but that wasn’t the end of his story, that was the beginning. After eighteen months, Larry returned to Vulcan and worked there for forty years. During that time he married an amazing woman, worked his way up to superintendent, lost his eye in 1981, raised two boys, started a bush hogging business and touched the lives of many people throughout his community. Larry loved his family, his old dogs, NASCAR racing and working with his fleet of tractors. He made a habit of going to the Half-way Market, where he was spoiled by Pam & Ernie Greer, as well as Paul & Kelly King, sisters, Nellie and Faye. Thank you all for the good times you shared. Many thanks to my Rec. Center crew for the cards, food, prayers and love you have shown our family and Faye’s church family. We want to acknowledge Dr. Nathan Lafferty, Dr. Joel Lee and Dr. Tony Vaughn for all their kindness and care for Larry. Many thanks to his Vulcan family for all of their support over the years. Also thanks to Willowbrook Hospice, especially Terry, Bre, Bobby and Julie for all their support in his final days. Along with his parents, Larry is also preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Rachel & Campbell Haffner; brothers, Don, Thomas & Bobby and sisters, Mary Dean & Mildred Nell. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Faye Wright Cloyd; sons, Mike (Taylor) Cloyd and Steve (Kelly) Cloyd; ; grandchildren, Joseph, Jesse & Lillian; chosen daughter, Lisa Cloyd Greenway; chosen extended family, Sam Adkins, Todd Davis, Todd Morton & Kelly Vaughn; sisters, Shirley Loggins and Sandra (Kenneth) Fields; sisters in-law, Donna Claire Cloyd, Barbara Finney, Tricia Wright & Mary Jo Sawyer; many nieces & nephews; vacation buddies & family friends, Joey & Lena Davis; other special friends, Dan & Liz Plattsmier, Raymond & Janice Vaughn, Shirley Vaughn, Nellie, Doug & Jimmy Smithson, The Chris White Family, Harold & Elise Givens, Johnny (Kathy) Haffner, Janie Osborne, Jan Adkins, Gary (Lynne) Bentley, Jean Bentley, Larry (Sondra) Peach, Barbara & Karen Hughes, Harlis Blackmun, Mike Clarke, Mike Lambert, Mike Luster, Dwayne Beckum, Robert Greenway, Jim McElhiney, Carter Canada Family, Charlie (Dean) Mashburn, Catherine Osborne, Charles and Polly Poteete and Buddy (Nancy) Johnson. Visitation will be 4-8PM Thursday, September 20, 2018 and one hour prior to the service at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Friday, September 21, 2018 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Johnny Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Williamson Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Joey Davis, Todd Davis, Kelly Vaughn, Sam Adkins, Johnny Haffner and Mike Lambert. Honorary pallbearers will be Friends at Vulcan Materials, Jimmy Smithson, Harlis “Mouse” Blackmun, Raymond Vaughn and Paul “Big Bird” McCord. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
