Obituary for Ethel Irene Salzer

Irene Salzer, age 90, of Mt. Laurel , NJ, Part time resident of Brentwood, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Monday May 21, 2018.

Irene was born in Lincoln Park Michigan on May 2, 1928, daughter of the late Thomas Lite Gamble and Catherine E. Gamble. She is preceded in death by her brothers Michael & Herbert. Survivors include daughters: Patricia Holly Salzer-Beam(Thomas),Laura Lee Salzer-Wilczek(Adam), & Pamela Colleen Salzer-Johnson(Roger), Grand sons: Adam Richard Wilczek(Alyssa) and Justin Andrew Wilczek. Also Nephews: Tim Gamble and Mike Gamble, Niece Catherine Gamble-Engel;
grand nieces and nephews.

Irene was born In Michigan. Her love for travel from an early age brought her to TWA after graduating from Airline School. This career took her around the world all of her days. Other then a few years off for child rearing, She went back to work for TWA in the 1960s under Howard Hughes and remained there until retirement as a travel agent in 1999. She traveled around the world from Egypt to Hawaii, Alaska to Israel and everywhere in between. She lived in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Missouri, Michigan, New York , New Jersey and Washington DC. She traveled by land, sea and air. She loved to party with her friends and loved to party with her daughters! St. Patrick’s Day became a fun time for her every year! She loved the Kentucky Derby and saw Secretariat win the year of the Triple Crown!

She was a single mom when it wasn’t so common to be a single mom!

She was a strong political activist all of her life sometimes Republican and sometimes Democrat. She was also an independent in some elections but always a conservative in finance and fiscal responsibility. She loved education and although she didn’t have her degree she did take courses at St. Anselm in New Hampshire and St. Louis Community in Missouri.

She loved her family, grandchildren and friends more then words can say! The Gamble Matriarch has passed leaving years of memories and love!

She will be buried in the Gamble Family cemetery in Harriman TN.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in loving memory of Ethel Irene Salzer.
