Obituary for Ruth Woody Miller

Emma Ruth (Woody) Miller, (“Ms Ruthie”), age 91 of Spring Hill, TN went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Ruth was born in Kingston, TN on November 12, 1926, to the late John E. and Elizabeth Woody, the 7th of 8 children. She attended Paint Rock School where she met her sweetheart, Russell Miller, in the 3rd grade. On August 18, 1946 at the young age of 19 after Russell’s return home from the army, they were married and immediately moved to Battle Creek, Michigan where they lived until August, 2003. Ruth was always a homemaker, a profession she loved, and was devoted to her family, friends, and church.

She was a longtime member of the 20th Street Church of Christ in Battle Creek, MI and, upon moving to Spring Hill, a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.

She was blessed with dearly beloved sisters, brothers, in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Robbie Lee (Clarence) Bostic, Amanda Frances (Sanford) Wood, Mary Mildred (James) Christian and Eva Charlene (Raymond) Bagwell; brothers, George Willard (Gertrude) Woody and James “J.C.” Coleman (Vivian) Woody, and brother-in-law Virgil Bright.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 71 married years, Russell Miller; daughters, Vickie Carlotta (Wayne) Tomlinson of Brentwood, TN and Mickie Carissa (Larry) Daly of Beavercreek, OH; sister Tika Jo Bright, Loudon, TN; Grandchildren, Luther Steven (Jayne) Prater, Daniel Neal Prater, Jacob Lee (Kim) Prater, Joshua David (Sarah) Prater, Katherine Trina (Jay) Lown, Kyle Wayne (Megan) Tomlinson, and Anastasia Grace Tomlinson; 9 great grandchildren, nephew Philip Brycen Wood, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

The family especially appreciates the gentle and compassionate care provided by her caregivers, Pam Parra and Amber Mulholland.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Memorial Park.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Shults-Lewis Child and Family Services in Valparaiso, IN or Avalon Hospice.
