Obituary for Kathy Scroggins Westerlund Dance

Kathy Scroggins Westerlund Dance of Franklin, TN passed away on the evening of June 8, 2017 at age 55. Born on November 30, 1961 in Elgin, IL to parents John Josiah Scroggins and Patricia Cook Bombka, Kathy’s early childhood was spent in the Chicago suburbs until middle school when she moved with her family to Orlando Florida. It was there she discovered that her ‘happy place’ was on the beach with toes in the sand, and a good book in hand. While attending DeLand High School, she realized her love for music and developed her natural talent in voice and dance. Kathy continued her undergraduate studies at USF as a voice major and spent summer breaks preforming at the well-known theme parks Opryland, TN and Great America, IL. Finally choosing to settle in Tennessee, Kathy achieved other accomplishments including a Master Barber license and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling. Reading, writing, art, interior decoration, and a love for animal rescue comprised only a few more of her many diverse interests.
Kathy will be dearly missed by her loving parents Patricia and Dennis Bombka of Debary, FL, and step mother Patricia Scroggins of Hampshire, IL. To Erik Westerlund, her son and light of her life, a relationship sweetened by deep talks and thoughts will be irreplaceable. And in the words of her enduring friend and father of her son, John Westerlund, ‘She will always be a beautiful and compassionate person’. Kathy’s siblings Barbara (Addam) Masri of Apopka, FL; Patricia (Joe) Harrell of Apopka, FL; Russell (April) Bombka of Tampa, FL; Michael (Lori) Bombka of DeBary, FL; and Scott Bombka of DeBary, FL, will forever reminisce and remember Christmas mornings, family vacations, hide-and-seek in piles of laundry, snow tobogganing, music charades, riding around untethered in the back of the big family station wagon, and being squashed together into the tiny family Pacer. The list goes on, Kathy! We pray that you are now experiencing wholeness in the peace and rest of your Savior’s arms, and that your tears are joyous as you begin an eternal family reunion with your grandparents and dearest, beloved, friend and father John Scroggins. Along with her parents and siblings, Kathy is survived by seven nephews, three nieces, and two grand nephews. Memorial service to be held at Journey Church in Apopka, FL on Sunday July 23, 2017.
