Obituary for William Bill "Buddy" Rudderham

The world has lost a great friend, a loyal colleague, a true gentleman, a loving father, a dedicated loving husband and more. William “Bill” Lauchie Rudderham (aka Buddy) took his last breath on this earth October 19, 2016. A resident of New Brunswick, Canada, he died while visiting in Tennessee. Full of love and humor to the end, his body finally failed him. Born September 1, 1933, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, he is survived by his wife, best friend and partner of over 40 years, Judith Marie; and their children, Cameron Lauchie, wife Rebecca and 3 children; Shannon Marie and 3 children; Daniel and his 2 children; William, wife Janet and 2 children; Ian Douglas; Deborah and 1 child; Steven, wife Abby and 3 children, 5 great grandchildren and the favorite cousin, Philip, and other family members.

In high school Bill received the Cadet’s Shield – given to the senior that for 4 years has been exemplary in sports, academics and community. He studied Architecture at Mount Allison College, New Brunswick. Life took him to the RCE in Western Canada where he excelled in demolition and was a sharp shooter. He began his construction career as an electrician’s apprentice and worked his way to VP of Engineering. Bill worked in over 20 countries in construction, estimating, design and engineering. He was well known the world over for being able to “pick the fly shit out of the pepper” – one of his descriptions of himself.

Bill loved life. From hunting Elk, Marlin fishing in Guam, catching large crab off British Columbia, sailing and boating, playing rugby, hockey, baseball, and other sports, scuba diving the Red Sea, teaching his children to swim, going against the odds in the Iran Civil War and a civil war in Liberia, watching the sun rise and set all over the world but enjoying it most with his wife Judith in the magical place called Skiff Lake, building a model of the ship The Blue Nose, playing pool and poker, respecting God’s world and its creatures, Bill was blessed. He believed in letting everyone be free to choose and free to come and go, yet he believed in traditions and respect. Bill was enormously intelligent, but he never flaunted that intelligence. He was a true gentleman and a gentle man.

An Irish Wake/celebration of life will be held at 7:00PM on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at The Office, 3525 Kedron Rd. Spring Hill, TN 37174 followed by a memorial Poker Tournament. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the William Bill Rudderham Memorial Fund, in care of SPRING HILL MEMORIAL PARK, FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES 931-486-0059, www.springhill-memorial.com
