Roberta Ruth Saunders Meek peacefully left this world to receive her rest and reward on April 21, 2016. She lived a beautiful life of 86 years, and in every way she sought to please God. Roberta was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles Meek, her parents, Robert and Beulah Saunders and brother Ross Saunders. Surviving brothers are Landon and John Saunders. Roberta and Charles were farmers in the Peytonsville community and raised four children, Nancy Norman, Charlie Meek, Jr., Sandra Nichols, and Tim Meek. Roberta had ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and each one was the absolute delight of her life. Roberta grew up in West Virginia and taught for a short time in a one-room schoolhouse before moving to Tennessee to attend Freed-Hardeman College and Lipscomb University. She had a deep love for children, and taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. Roberta was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, and spent many contented hours at her sewing machine. She gave all her grand-daughters sewing machines and taught them to sew. She conducted quilting classes, made dozens of quilts for her family and for the Ronald McDonald House, and inspired many ladies to sew dresses to send to little girls in Africa. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Landon Saunders officiating. Interment Williamson Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Brad Norman, Mark Nichols, Bo Norman, Bart Norman, Kyle Nichols, Chuck Meek, and Brandon Nichols. Honorary Pallbearers are Royce Robertson, Michael Ware, Blake McCarroll, Scott Simpson, Reid Bowers, Brady Saunders, Steve Saunders and Dr. Joe Willoughby.
