Obituary for Ben Walter Gary

Mr. Ben Walter Gary, well known auctioneer, age 83, of Spring Hill, TN passed away November 26, 2015. Having been one of the first licensed auctioneers in the state of Tennessee, Ben’s license number was # 27. His auction career was his passion and spanned over 50 years. Inducted into the TN Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame in 1994. Attended Spring Hill United Methodist Church and was a Charter member of Spring Hill Lion’s Club. Preceded in death by parents, James Spencer and Elsie Petway Gary; sister, Sara Jane Mefford. Survived by: wife of 60 years, Burnetta House Gary; son, James Paul (Pam) Gary; daughter, Julie Gary; grandson, Joe Spencer Gary; special cousins, Bobby (Ann) Russell and Betty Ray, and other loving family members. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 AM Monday, November 30, 2015 at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home, Keith Sherwood officiating. Interment Alexander Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Scott Helgren, Gwynne Evans, Mike Padgett, David “Beefy” Baxter, John Houston, Joshua Houston, Joe Spencer Gary, Jean Maupin, and Wanda Sawyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Spring Hill Lion’s Club; Tennessee Auctioneers Association and former employees of Spring Hill Auction Barn. Memorials may be made to the Alexander Cemetery c/o Lexie Sparkman, 1084 Carters Creek Pike, Columbia, TN 38401 or Spring Hill United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 24, Spring Hill, TN 37174. Visitation will be 4-8PM Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at SPRING HILL MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, (931) 486-0059. www.springhill-memorial.com
