Obituary for Walter Dewey Stewart

Walter Dewey Stewart
Mr. Walter Dewey Stewart, loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and patriot went to be with his Lord on February 24, 2015. Walter was the fifth of five children born to the late Stanley Paul and Anna Dewey Blodget Stewart in Seattle, Washington on March 4, 1924 He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1941, and received a BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington in 1947. Walter was an avid fan of the U of W Huskies all his life. As an officer in the U.S. Navy, Walter served his country in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He remained in the U.S. Navy Reserve for 26 years and attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Walter had a deep sense of patriotism and love of country, and left that heritage with his family. On August 2, 1952 Walter married Dorthy Elaine Wethern in Huntington Park, California. Dottie was the “apple of his eye”, and the love of his life for 62 ½ years. Walter went to work after the war for Sears-Roebuck and Company. He had a stellar career there as he served in high level management positions on the west coast and the east coast. During his tenure at Sears, Walter was asked to work with the FBI in the counter terrorism division because of his U.S. Navy experience. Upon retiring after 26 years he served the State of Tennessee under Governor Lamar Alexander as the Director of Public Administration. Walter finished his working career this year serving as a court officer in the Williamson County Courts. Walter and Dottie loved to travel. He and his bride traveled throughout this great nation and Canada pulling a 30’ RV with his third wheel Ford pickup. They also traveled to five continents living life to its fullest and celebrating God’s great creation. Walter and Dottie loved the Lord and served him faithfully for 29 years at Walker Baptist Church. Walter and Dottie passed on the greatest gift you can give your children…Jesus Christ! Walter Stewart was a man of integrity and a promise keeper. He was first to stand for whom was right and he was first to admit when he was wrong. Many times he would stand alone but you would always find him standing. He was not perfect but he was persevering. He was not faultless but he was faithful. Walter kept his promises to God, to his wife and to his family. Walter loved God, loved his wife, loved his family and loved life. He is survived by his wife, Dottie, his children, Gary (Amy) Stewart, Debbie (Craig) Lawrence and James (Lori) Stewart; his grandchildren, Stephen, Jillian, Kevin, Abby, Matthew, Mallorie, Johnathan, Brooke & Bailey; an older sister, Diantha Wilmer. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 6-8PM at Walker Baptist Church, 1350 West Main St., Franklin, TN. Services will be conducted 3:00 PM Sunday with visitation one hour prior to the service at Walker Baptist Church. Interment Williamson Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. WILLIAMSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 615 794-2289. www.williamsonmemorial.com
